Congratulations on being invited for interview for our nursing & midwifery courses. This is an opportunity for us to find out about you and your journey so far.

Remember that there are no trick questions and we'll try our best to make you feel comfortable and at ease.

How we'll assess you

Your knowledge of midwifery, nursing and the NHS

  • Knowledge and awareness of midwifery or your chosen field of nursing
  • Awareness of contemporary issues in the NHS
  • Experience of caring for others
  • Awareness of a qualified nurse or midwife's role and responsibilities in the specified field

Your outlook

  • Ability to demonstrate your non-judgemental approach and cultural awareness
  • Evidence of personal awareness, empathy and caring approach

Your skills

  • Clear and coherent communication skills
  • Time management skills
  • Knowledge of, and coping strategies for, challenges during the course
  • Knowledge of advantages and disadvantages of working in team

Prepare for your interview

You should prepare by thinking about your answers to questions. Such as why you'll be an effective nurse or midwife, or how you will cope with the rigours of the course. We're looking for responses that show you've done your preparation and you have real life examples to support your answers.

Materials to read and complete before your interview

You should also familiarise yourself with journals such as Nursing Standard, Nursing Times, British Journal of Midwifery or The Practising Midwife. For nursing you should consider the specific requirements of the field of nursing you have chosen.
