Overview

This one-day training aims to equip participants with knowledge in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and to help them to identify how they could use it in their practice, to support positive behavioural change to improve the lives of people with a learning disability, autism and/or mental health problems. It will be of interest to anyone with a special interest in PBS, students on any health programmes, community-based practitioners, mental health professionals working in inpatient and community setting with service users.

Course content

The overall aim of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is to improve the quality of a person's life and the people around them.

By the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  1. Define PBS including: (i) 6 key principles of PBS; (ii) PBS person-centred framework and its overarching values (inclusion, choice, participation, and equality of opportunity)
  2. Develop understanding that PBS consists of a blend of person-centred values and is based on behavioural science and to apply this evidence to inform decision-making in practice
  3. Exam knowledge that enhancing a person`s life quality can minimise problem behaviour
  4. Describe good positive behaviour and how teaching new skills is linked to positive behaviour and how to create a positive behaviour support plan

Learning and teaching

Study mode: Synchronous online delivery via virtual classroom using one of the following web-based learning and teaching platforms (e.g. MS teams, Kaltura new row, Adobe Connect, Zoom).
